House panel told state population growing larger, older

Part of the challenge of a part-time legislature that faces term limits is relying on a state bureaucracy to provide information to guide the making of public policy.

House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, charged the Select Committee on Health Care Workforce Innovation to investigate and recommend policy options to ensure there is an adequate number of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to provide for Florida’s growing and aging population. Wednesday, committee members cross-examined Department of Health staff members for 20 minutes about whether Florida has a shortage of doctors.
