Initial state trails sponsorship offer falls short of expectations

A state program to allow businesses and groups to sponsor state trails has produced a single proposal that would pay the state 30 percent of the revenue from selling that space on signs.

SB 268 in 2012 authorized the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to seek sponsorship agreements at seven trails. The bill faced opposition from some trail users who said the commerical signs would intrude on the outdoors experience.
