Last update Aug. 9, 2014: Florida’s rail network is comprised of 2,796 miles of track owned by 15 private railroad companies and 81 miles of track owned by the state of Florida, according to the Florida Department of Transportation’s 2010 Florida Rail System Plan . Over half (53 percent) of that mileage is owned by CSX Transportation, who owns several railroads including the Florida East Coast Railway.
