This week we learned that Gov. Scott used an incentive deal made prior to a trade mission to justify such trips, that the state and Amazon are talking again about the online retailer setting up Florida facilities and that Scott signed a bill to speed up death penalty cases.
Gov. Rick Scott leaves Friday for his eighth economic development trip overseas since taking office and is expected to visit the Paris Air Show.
Gov. Rick Scott announced Canada-based security services firm GardaWorld has added 500 jobs in two years, five times more than required in an incentive deal with the state. He said the deal is proof of the effectiveness of his trade mission to Canada, even though the deal was signed months before the trip took place. ... In 2012, the Orlando Sentinel reported that companies received brownfield tax breaks without having to show there was contamination. HB 7007 and SB 4006 require that brownfield sites have cleanup agreements in place with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or be next to such contamination areas. Some say that is too restrictive.
