After last year’s massacre at a Connecticut elementary school, educators nationwide reviewed school safety plans and trained teachers, in some cases, to be first responders. In Oklahoma, Minnesota, New Jersey and elsewhere school boards adopted “controlled access” measures where the single public entrance to the building is locked and visitors are buzzed in.
