Joint panel adopts lobbying audit rules

Sen. Joseph Abruzzo, chairman of the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee, says no audits will be done next year but auditors will begin studying the 2014 reports in 2015. File photo from Florida House of Representatives.

A legislative committee adopted rules Monday for auditing of lobbyist financial reports, starting in 2015.

Sen. Joe Abruzzo, chairman of the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee, said finally implementing the 2005 reporting law was a mandate from Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, and House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel. He said the joint panel wanted the auditing rules adopted before Jan. 1, in time for the quarterly reports of 2014.
