A man sentenced to die for the 1986 kidnap, rape and murder of a young Broward County woman made a "heartfelt" confession before dying by lethal injection Tuesday in the first execution carried out with a new sedative that some capital punishment opponents claim may allow condemned killers to suffer "cruel and unusual" punishment.
