Slime along St. Lucie River stirs issue in advance of Senate hearing on Indian River Lagoon

The issue of Indian River Lagoon's pollution problems was widened this week to include Lake Okeechobee and state versus federal water quality regulations.

Senate President Don Gaetz in July established the Select Committee on Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin. On Wednesday, Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart and select committee chairman, announced the lineup of speakers for an Aug. 22 hearing in Stuart.
