The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says it has reduced operating expenses in its regulatory program by $8.8 million this fiscal year and it's asking to keep some of it for employee bonuses.

DEP says it cut spending through initiatives that led to reductions in the numbers of staff and layers of management and other savings including reduced travel costs, leased office space and use of office supplies and equipment.
