Policy Note: Property Insurance Rates and Regulation

Last update August 6, 2014:  Since 2005, no hurricane has hit Florida but property insurance rates are steadily rising -- especially in the heavily populated coastal areas -- to the consternation of homeowners across the state.  Florida’s average rate of $1,933 a year is the highest in the nation, and nearly double the national average of $978.
