Policy Note: Unemployment Benefits and Taxes

Last updated Oct. 10, 2014Florida’s unemployment insurance program, called “reemployment assistance,” provides temporary financial assistance to workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. In Florida, reemployment a ssistance is drawn from the unemployment benefits trust fund.  Employers pay for the fund through a tax managed by the Florida Department of Revenue, and are prohibited from deducting from worker's payrolls to do so.
