Right-to-Life bills pass House

Rep. Larry Ahern, R-St. Petersburg, is a co-sponsor of HB 759, which would make it a separate offense to injure or kill an "unborn child." File photo by Meredith Geddings, Florida House of Representatives.

The House marked the annual "Right to Life" day Thursday by approving two abortion-related measures -- one outlawing the procedure for reasons of race or sex selection and another recognizing a separate human status at all stages of development.

"Women's health is at risk if you don't support this bill -- especially if you're an unborn 'woman' in the womb," Rep. Ross Spano, R-Riverview, said of the sex- and race-selection bill.
