The chief executives of two major state entities were given harsh questioning and stern warnings from two separate Senate committees on Monday prior to unanimous approval for confirmation from each panel.
Citizens Property Insurance Corp. CEO Barry Gilway came in for the most scrutiny, as lawmakers on the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee questioned him for nearly two hours on a series of scandals involving lavish travel spending by executives, the firing of agency watchdogs and the misconduct of employees rewarded with exorbitant severance packages.
