A compromise has been found in a long-running dispute between optometrists and ophthalmologists. Sen. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, sponsored a strike-all amendment to SB 278 that would, if it becomes law, produce a successful ending to a three-decade effort by optometrists to prescribe oral medicine.  It contains provisions that representatives of both sides endorsed during a public hearing.
