Rep. Doug Broxson on Wednesday withdrew HB 431, which would have encouraged companies to explore for oil and gas in Blackwater River State Forest in northwest Florida.
HB 431 faced opposition from environmentalists who said the drilling would threaten sensitive forest habitat. Supporters said the forest management plan already allows drilling and exploration. There was no Senate bill companion.
