Legislative leaders say this spring they want to change how politicians raise and spend money during campaigns.
House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, has made eliminating committees of continuous existence a priority. Senate Ethics and Elections Committee chairman Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, said he does not want to eliminate CCEs but close the loopholes that enable politicians to use the money, in Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, words, to “finance a lavish lifestyle.”
