Rep. Bryan Nelson, R-Apopka, is zeroing in on raising the cap on annual increases of state-run Citizens Property Insurance Corp. rates by 3 percent.
Nelson, who chairs the House Insurance and Banking Subcommittee, cited support for a 3 percent increase in a survey conducted by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, if the extra rate increase would reduce the potential for assessments after a hurricane.
