Florida lawmakers face crucial decisions this spring on how to provide medical care to millions of poor citizens and how to implement the federal Affordable Care Act.
Medicaid, a federal-state partnership providing health insurance to more than 3 million Floridians, consumes about $21 billion or almost a third of the state budget. If the state agrees, then the ACA would add more than another million people to the taxpayer-subsidized health care program.
