Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said Wednesday his agency will issue its one-millionth concealed weapons permit next week, marking a sharp rise in gun-toting licenses over the past six years.
At a news conference marking the 25th year of the permit system, Putnam said Florida leads the nation in license holders. Of 2.3 million licenses issued since 1987, Putnam said only 7,244 have been revoked because of crime or changes in legal requirements -- about three-tenths of one percent of the total.
