State Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, was picked Monday to serve as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, which is regarded as one of the Legislature’s more powerful positions. Any spending proposal will go through the appropriations committee. Negron’s experience in the House of Representatives, where he chaired the appropriations committee 2005-06, and in the Senate where he chaired the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services were referenced in the announcement naming him the Senate budget chief.
