Environmental groups seek state constitutional amendment for $10 billion in land purchases

A coalition of environmental groups has announced its drive for a state constitutional amendment to provide $10 billion over 20 years for land purchases in the state.

Florida Forever was the largest land-buying program in the nation through 2008, when it received $300 million a year. The state has purchased 2.5 million acres since 1990 along with providing money for city parks, military base buffers and for working seafood waterfronts, and for paying private landowners to conserve land.
