The Florida Association of Counties filed a lawsuit Thursday challenging a new state law intended to collect hundreds of millions of dollars in unpaid Medicaid bills.
The lawsuit, announced earlier this month, is being joined by 47 counties. It argues the plan to collect the bills by garnishing a portion of state revenue shared with the counties violates the state constitution, which restricts the state's ability to impose unfunded mandates on local governments.
