Lawmakers were in session — and thus barred from fundraising — for for 74 of the 91 days of the first quarter of 2012, which put a damper on their fundraising for incumbents' re-election efforts. The two main political parties also saw a drop in their numbers from a comparatively strong fourth quarter, with the Republican Party of Florida's haul declining by more than half. The Florida Democratic Party saw its total recede from almost $1.8 million to less than $1.2 million in the first period of an election year in which all 160 seats of the Legislature will be up for grabs.
